STA133 Focus on The Hip Pt2 : 'Buttock Pain' with guest Dr. Sarah Rollins

In Ep.133 of the Sports Therapy Association Podcast, we bring you Part 2 of this month’s ‘Focus on The Hip’, with special guest Dr. Sarah Rollins discussing Buttock Pain (posterior hip pain), a condition treated by soft tissue therapists but all too often under the assumption that all buttock pain arises from the Piriformis muscle. Dr Sarah Rollins delves into the anatomy of the posterior hip and the many potential reasons for our clients & patients suffering from buttock pain.

Dr. Sarah Rollins spent 11 years training & serving as an Army GP. In 2009, she left the Army and took up a post with the Ministry of Defence as a Civil Servant GP. In 2012 she moved to the Regional Rehabilitation Unit in Aldershot to work in Sport, Exercise & MSK Medicine.

In 2017, Sarah completed her Masters in Medical Ultrasound and in 2018 wrote the FSEM UK training guidelines for MSK Ultrasound training & mentoring.

Sarah is a runner and orienteer, and an ex-GB athlete herself having represented Great Britain at 11 World Orienteering Championships. She continues to compete at a Master’s level winning a Gold medal in 2022.

STA132 Focus on The Hip Pt1 : ’Hip Dysplasia’ with Holly Soper-Doyle

In Ep.132 of the Sports Therapy Association Podcast, we bring you Part 1 of this month’s ‘Focus on The Hip’, with special guest Holly Soper-Doyle talking to us about Hip Dysplasia, a condition defined by the socket of the hip joint being too shallow.

Hip Dysplasia, more prevalent in women (8:2) than men, is known to be a common cause of developing early onset osteoarthritis. If left undiagnosed and/or untreated the joint can degenerate so much that it results in bone on bone contact and therefore requires a hip replacement.

Holly Soper-Doyle is Specialist musculoskeletal Physiotherapist at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and owner of Integrum Physiotherapy in North London. Her passion is highlighting the gap that exists in diagnosis of hip dysplasis, as well as evidence informed resources for rehabilitation, both conservative management and pre & post-operatively.

STA130: Focus on Education Pt2: 'The ST School' with guests Anna Maria Mazzieri & Students

In Ep.130 of the Sports Therapy Association Podcast, we bring you the final part of this month's 'Focus on Education' with special guest Anna Maria Mazzieri, Director & Lead Tutor of The ST School, a highly regarded group of training providers delivering the Diploma in Soft Tissue Therapy (BTEC level 5) in Exeter, Bristol and Birmingham.

STA129: Focus on Education Pt1: 'Movement Therapy Education' with guest Mike Grice & MTE Students

In Ep.129 of the Sports Therapy Association Podcast, we bring you the first of a two part 'Focus on Education' with special guest Mike Grice, Director of Movement Therapy Education.

Movement Therapy Education is a specialist training company delivering therapy education. Started by Mike Grice in 2003, its courses are designed to bridge the gap between the fitness industry/sports massage and clinicians. Their mission statement: “to teach the skills that help therapists who have not been to University to develop their clinical, critical thinking and research skills to ensure they can communicate effectively with those working in Allied Healthcare.”

Mike Grice is a Registered Osteopath with over 20 years experience in the Health and Fitness Industry. He lectures on the FdSc and BSc Sports Therapy programmes at University College Birmingham and throughout the world in Anatomy and Intrinsic Biomechanics Coaching. Mike is a lead tutor/instructor for Elite Therapy Education, Biomechanics Education, Oxford School of Sports Massage (OSSM), RockTape/RockBlade and NAQI and regularly teaches courses for Premier League and Championship football clubs.

Mike regularly presents at conferences including Therapy Expo, FitPro, International Fitness Showcase, Good Health Show and the IOC world conference for Injury Prevention in Monaco. He also runs Movement Therapy Clinics in Birmingham where his team put all that Movement Therapy Education teach in to practice.

His presentation “In my experience... the world is more or less flat” delved into cognitive psychology - how we perceive the world, remember things and make decisions.
