STA85 'CrossFit Pt4: Weightlifting as Part of CrossFit' with special guest Michaela Breeze MBE

And so we reach the final part of this month's 'Focus on #CrossFit' on the Sports Therapy Association Videocast & Podcast, which was recorded as always LIVE at 8pm on a Tuesday.

In this episode, we were hugely honoured to be joined by special guest Michaela Breeze MBE, one of Britain’s most successful female weightlifters of all time!

  • Double Olympian
  • 6 x Commonwealth Games Medals
  • Commonwealth Games Champion
  • British Record Holder
  • Recipient of an MBE in 2011 for services to weightlifting

Since retiring from competition, Michaela focuses her time helping others achieve their potential, and over the last 2 decades has coached over 20 athletes to compete on the international stage.

Through 'Breeze Academy' (https://powerposition.co.uk), Michaela has helped Crossfitters all over the world improve their Olympic lifts, teaching how to move consistently, safely and efficiently in order to optimise personal performance.

STA members, look out for details of seminars & courses with Michaela, coming soon!

Questions to Michaela included:

  • In a career spanning over 2 decades including Team GB at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008,
  • 4 consecutive Commonwealth Games and more, you’ve had your fair share of injuries and set backs. Looking back, do you think some of the injury could have been avoided?
  • Does your experience of injury help you help others avoid it? How much of the cause is technique?
  • Looking at Weightlifting as part of CrossFit, do you think the risk of injury is more prevalent? If so, why?
  • Is the whole concept of lifting heavy against the clock a recipe for disaster in itself?
  • Since retiring you now help others achieve their potential and have actually coached over 20 athletes to compete on the international stage, including Ellie Pryor - Britain’s first ever Youth Olympian in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting who you started coaching at the age of 11. What age can one start weightlifting?
  • How did it feel being awarded an MBE in the 2011 Queens Birthday Honours list, for your services to Weightlifting?
  • Tell us about the courses and seminars you have coming up. Some have specifically soft tissue therapists in mind, yes?
