'Neck Injury & Rehabilitation' - In Ep161 of The Sports Therapy Association podcast, we welcome back special guest Keith Burnett, postgraduate Sport and Exercise Therapist with a background in Sports Biomechanics and Strength and Conditioning.

As an ex-semi professional rugby union prop forward himself, Keith Burnett has identified the need for improvements in both player & therapist education with regards to neck injuries in rugby, and is currently studying a specialist Doctorate in 'Neck Injury Management In Rugby Players.'

STA160: ’Breathwork for Head Trauma’ with special guest David Jackson

In this episode of the Sports Therapy Association Podcast, former professional rugby player David 'Jacko' Jackson discusses how efficient functional breathing using the nose instead of the mouth can be key in not just recovery from brain injury but also improving athletic performance. 

With 316 appearances for Nottingham RFC, and 102 tries across a career of 13 years, David 'Jacko' Jackson was forced to retire in 2013 due to ‘TBI’ - Traumatic Brain Injury. Re–training as a Strength & Conditioning Coach, David co-founded the School of Calisthenics, became a Master Instructor with the Oxygen Advantage, and founded ProBreathwork.com.

In this episode, Jacko talks about his incredible journey, and explains how as soft tissue therapists we can help educate our clients to improve breathing for performance.

'Sports Nutrition Myths' - In this episode, special guest Faye Townsend, Registered Sports Nutritionist (AfN & SENr) discusses her 'Top Five Sports Nutrition Myths', in order to help soft tissue therapists guide clients on what & how to fuel their performance.

With a first-class bachelor (BSc) degree in 'Nutrition with Food Consumer Science' and postgraduate degree in 'Sports and Exercise Nutrition (SENr)', Faye Townsend is a highly respected specialist in nutrition for athletic performance. In her daily work, however, she is keen to highlight how food is not only fuel, but also a daily source of pleasure & comfort, for socialising and for reward. Striking a balance between both pleasure and health can be difficult, filled with complications and confused by marketing messages.
